This pedagogy worked wonders for the students of Helikx open school and learning centre, where they took up the opportunity of teaching the kids of Pagalpatty government school which had a very little resource. A group of 14 children had divided themselves into teaching handwriting, science, drawing and physical education.

The teaching gave the students an aesthetic pleasure of learning that linking subject matter to lesson gave the kids a much better understanding. Connecting through the emotional level with the kids before teaching was significant learning made by the children of Helikx open school. They worked in teams on a concerted project where they need to have a structured plan to deliver it to the kids in an accessible way to them, this sparked the child’s curiosity to learn techniques and ideas to teach the younger ones.

Surprisingly there was a far-fetched change in the behaviour of the children who took the opportunity to teach. In the beginning, they became in charge of their emotions and tried to understand and relate it to the times where they had to control their emotions when they had to teach kids repeatedly in different ways to make them understand, without losing one’s reason. There was increased self-care, co-ordination and teamwork among the children.

The children found that teaching practically helped them understand any subject matter better and this cooked interest among the group of children who took up science to teach. They started discussing different ideas in the class which in turn provoked interest among other children.

Every day, the children started discovering different learning techniques and strategies to remember which can be taught the kids. Not only did this pedagogy did wonders in the class but it also improved their social and life skills. The overall positive response to the project is transparent.
