From morning coffee or tea we always make choices. Life itself is choice of right or wrong. In life each and every moment we are taking up decisions. For me writing this article itself is all about thinking. In life we all are Critical thinkers.
We think critically when there is a need to analyse, prioritise and think about the after effects. But research shows that most of us are not good in it. Being it an industry critical thinking is something that is always demanding for a manager. This article gives you certain tips to enhance the critical thinking or to make you think in a disciplined way.
Critical thinking can be defined as ’thinking which has a purpose’ or ‘reflective judgment’. “Critical thinking is a capacity to work with complex ideas whereby a person can make effective provision of evidence to justify a reasonable judgement. The evidence, and therefore the judgement, will pay appropriate attention to context”. (Moon 2008)
Be aware of your emotions
If you feel sad, angry or frustrated, try to get in touch with your emotions. Don’t allow your emotions to control you.
Understand others
Being in others shoes help you to avoid judgments. Think why the other person behaved in such a way in that situation. It will help you to understand them more and that will reflect in your decisions.
Observe your group
The group that you include will affect your thinking patterns. If the group always thinks in negative way, it will affect you. While your group includes people who analyze and engage in intellectual discussions that will enhance your skills.
Redefine the way to think
Each and every situation you face in life is defined and that can be personal or social. Try to redefine it. Talk more about opportunities rather than hurdles. Help others redefine it in a positive way.
Self-Evaluation
Evaluate your progress everyday. Whether you are working or moving according to your long term goals? I am I acting according to my own values?
Spot your intuitions
We always have hunches about certain things or situations. It is a result of informations registered other than the level of our consciousness. Getting aware of your emotions will help to increase the sensitivity to the kind of informations.
Improve you listening skills
It is a skill that we rarely use. You will have situations where you are preoccupied with various thoughts and are not able to concentrate to what others say. Better you listen to more exact information that you got.
Validate the information
Whatever be the information that you get, by blindly believing it, try to learn more about it.
Weed out negative talks
Your thinking will be more of self-talks. Avoid negative self-talks and replace it with more of positive talks.
Have a sense of humour
Having a sense of humour and courage to laugh at you and make others happy, will help you to maintain a clarity of thought and perspectives.
The more clearly we are aware of ourselves, our strength and weakness, the more likely our critical thinking will be productive. So develop your critical thinking skills. Boost your ability to solve problems and make the right decisions at work, home and everywhere you make your presence.
